What is a Discover Pass?

By purchasing a Discover Pass, you are helping to keep the state's various outdoor recreation sites open and accessible to the public. A Discover Pass is required for access to the Green River, Skykomish River and Sauk River. Yes. All of the whitewater rafting stretches that we run depends solely on your participation. Everyone will receive a paddle to use while on the river. If you have any medical considerations that may affect with your being able to participate in paddling, please let your Wildwater guide know.

Does each raft have a guide?

Yes, every raft on the river will have a trained and certified full time staff member, who has a minimum of First Aid/CPR and Whitewater Rescue Certification.

Will we end up at the same place we started?

Yes. Since all rivers run downhill, the launch site and take-out locations of the rivers are different. Wildwater provides vehicle shuttle either prior to launching or after taking off the river to return to you the meeting location where your cars are parked.

Do I need previous experience?

No. Wildwater River Guides loves helping people become river enthusiasts, and we know that we all have to start somewhere. Wildwater has the luxury of being able to accommodate all skill types. We offer river trips from Class I-V river stretches on the best rivers in Washington. Wildwater recommends participants know how to swim, be in good physical conditions, and have had previous rafting experience before joining us on the Skykomish River (Class V), due to its challenging rapids and cold glacier melt.

Do I need previous experience to join a course?

No, you do not need experience to join a course. Wildwater will begin teaching you the fundamentals of kayaking and follow a steady progression.

Do I need my own equipment?

No. Wildwater provides all the needed equipment for the course at no additional cost. If you already have kayaking equipment, you may bring it along and use your own.

What if I don’t know how to swim?

During a kayak course, you may exit your kayak at some point. Although it isn't required to know how to swim, Wildwater strongly recommends that you are very comfortable being in the water.

I’m a beginner and want to learn how to roll. Will I leave a beginner course with this skill?

Rolling is an intermediate whitewater kayaking skill. We will touch on the subject in a beginner course, but Wildwater does not guarantee that you will have a solid roll after a 2 or 3 day course. However, we do spend more time on the roll in our 3 day beginner courses.

Stand Up Paddleboarding

Do I need previous experience to join a SUP trip?

No experience is necessary. Our Stand Up Paddeboarding (SUP) trips are lead by certified professionals who will guide the river and assist with paddling techniques throughout the trip. Our trips accommodate first-timers and experienced SUPers.

Can I rent a paddleboard from Wildwater?

Since we are a professional guide service, we do not rent out paddleboards for individual use. However, when participating in a SUP trip with Wildwater, we make sure to provide you all the equipment you will need, including a paddleboard!

What if I don’t know how to swim?

Wildwater requires each participant to wear a PFD (personal floatation device), so the ability to swim is not necessary.

Will it hurt if I fall onto my board?

Wildwater uses boards that are inflatable to help reduce the risk of injury on our guided SUP trips. When inflated, the boards become stiffened, (and support weight just like a hard board would), but are much more forgiving.

Do I have to stand the whole time?

No. Unlike a hard board, our inflatable boards are comfortable enough for kneeling and sitting.

Consumption of alcohol before or during any whitewater activity creates a serious risk to all participants on the trip. Alcohol is not permitted or tolerated before or during any of our river experiences.
